I began making chardonnay in small quantities in 2001 a bit under the radar. After
several years, in 2007, I decided to create a label, Le Nu, for my Burgundian desires.
I stumbled upon a vineyard at the base of Mt Veeder, the Chevlin Vineyard planted
to Chardonnay back in 2000. John Truchard son of the Truchard Family Wines manages
the vineyard for the proprietors which made it that much more appealing to me, as
I have always respected them as growers. Also, I was intrigued with this lower Napa
Valley vineyard because of the micro climate that exists in this corner of the Southwestern
most portion of the Napa Valley. Mt Veeder stands tall to the west in front of the
vineyard shielding hot afternoon sunlight coupled with the cool Carneros breezes
blowing threw everyday makes this an amazing spot for growing Chardonnay that retains
high acidity. This fruitful combination of factors, without question, merited the
unveiling of a separate label for our Chardonnay production, and so Le Nu began.
Le Nu means “the nude” in French, which translates exactly to the style
of Chardonnay we are making, unadulterated, fresh, and pure!
